The regulatory landscape around dam safety is changing rapidly. There are regulatory proceedings at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that could dramatically alter the way the industry ensures public safety around dam infrastructure.
Most notably, FERC proposed an overhaul to its dam safety regulations. This proposal has created great discussion among dam owners, consultants, and state agencies responsible for dam safety. FERC received more than a thousand comments in response to its “notice of proposed rulemaking.”
Additionally, FERC recently issued a NOI (notice of inquiry) on financial assurances.
