(P80) Scaling Effects on the Performance of a Cross-Flow Current Turbine

Current turbines are a promising source of power for the Blue Economy and have the potential to provide on-site energy for numerous Blue Economy applications, particularly remote communities located along rivers. This work explores how scaling affects the performance of a cross-flow current turbine with the objectives of improving our understanding of the underlying fluid mechanics driving turbine performance, informing the interpretation of scale model results, and enabling the design of better laboratory-scale experiments. These objectives are critical to lowering the costs associated with the design and prototyping stages for new technology development.
