Andre Mazzoleni is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the North Carolina State University, and is the founder and director of the Engineering Mechanics and Space Systems Lab (EMSSL). The EMSSL is very involved in projects related to the development of ocean-based renewable energy technologies, such as tethered underwater turbine systems and as tethered underwater kite systems for extracting energy from ocean currents, and ocean-based compressed air energy storage (OCAES). In addition to renewable energy, the EMSSL also conducts research in the areas of bio-inspired robotics, the biomechanics of the human spine, advanced space propulsion systems and trajectory guidance systems for high-altitude research balloons.
