Sustainable Marine provides tidal energy solutions for island and coastal communities. It has developed an innovative floating tidal energy system called PLAT-I. The platform only requires two meters of water for launching and towing and is moored with a turret configuration allowing it to align with the tide or the river flow. It has been designed to allow easy installation and is accessible for maintenance and servicing. Since 2018, a 280kW PLAT-I has been deployed in the waters of Grand Passage, Nova Scotia, Canada. The system has demonstrated it can produce predictable power, even in adverse weather conditions. A second and larger 420kW platform was recently launched, the PLAT-I 6.40. It will also be tested in Grand Passage and then moved to the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) in 2021. This is where the highest tides in the world occur, and where Sustainable Marine is delivering Canada’s first tidal array to which will deliver clean, renewable, and predictable energy to Nova Scotia’s electrical grid. Sustainable Marine is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, with offices in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Spay, Germany.
