Professor Meng Tao’s research focuses on sustainable solar photovoltaic technologies. Its goal is to push solar energy into a mainstream energy source by 2050. It covers from materials and devices to systems and applications. Some of the projects include energy-efficient production of solar modules, substitution of scarce materials in solar modules with Earth-abundant materials, value-added recycling of solar modules, and new solar photovoltaic systems based on load management for industrial electrolysis, electric vehicle charging, and energy storage. He has been the lead organizer for the Electrochemical Society symposium series on Photovoltaics for the 21st Century for over a decade. He is an editor of ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology. He was awarded the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Alternative Energy Technology and was invited to the 2017 Nobel Award Ceremony in Stockholm.
