In January 2020 Black & Veatch formed a Coronavirus Incident Response Team to organize our response to the recently discovered SARS-CoV-2 virus and its associated disease COVID-19. The virus had started affecting our operations in Asia and was recognized as a potential global threat. This was the starting point for many reactive and proactive actions we have taken this year to fight this disease.
Black & Veatch is constructing many solar projects around the United States and has faced a myriad of challenges related to COVID-19 including uneven government guidance, increased sick time, testing problems, labor issues, and obstacles to rapidly deploying new technologies and approaches. This session will explore these challenges and how we are adapting to the ever-evolving pandemic.
At the same time, Black & Veatch’s innovation team has championed over 20 new initiatives to help fight COVID-19, and the session will review highlights from three programs. The IgniteX COVID-19 Response Accelerator is working with 18 startups, companies and non-profits on promising new solutions. The NEXT Coalition is a group of construction companies that are collectively seeking emerging health and safety technologies to address COVID-19. Finally, Black & Veatch has developed our own solutions including site access control, modular screening and testing facilities, disinfection technologies, environmental sensing, and personal protective equipment.
