The growing popularity of energy storage systems for commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers has driven innovation in the industry for decades. The product of that innovation, however, has largely been focused on centralized energy storage systems, leaving many potential C&I end-users without acceptable storage options. Specifically, C&I consumers may have limited or no options for centralized energy storage systems due to limited available space, fire concerns, and upfront or unforeseen costs. Once fully realized, these obstacles can dissuade C&I consumers and project developers from pursuing certain solar + storage projects. This hole in the market leaves open an opportunity for technologies that can address the shortcomings of centralized systems. This presentation will address the comparisons of panel-level storage to centralized energy storage systems and identify the markets for which they are ideally suited.
