Beyond 2020: Optimizing Utility-Scale PV with Emerging Technologies and Innovative O&M Strategies
Over the next decade, utility-scale asset owners and operators will assess and deploy new PV technologies to buttress future plant returns against declining values in solar production. Emerging technologies including advanced inverter functionality and battery storage allow asset owners to adapt to a changing market such as shifting peak electricity demand, PV curtailment, and a growing need for new value streams, including ancillary services -- preferably without increasing plant LCOE. While some of these technologies are already deployed extensively (i.e. trackers), testing and demonstration of multiple emerging technologies have not yet been combined within a single PV facility. This presentation addresses critical issues relative to trends in cell material composition and architecture, module configuration, tracking systems, inverters, plant electrical topology, battery storage, and advanced control strategies. Attendees will get real-world understanding of new plant design and equipment integration systems as well as O&M trends .
