Light and Elevated Temperature-induced Degradation (LeTID): Accuracy of Laboratory Test Data and Project Financial Models

Light and elevated temperature-induced degradation (LeTID) can drastically reduce power output of some PV modules in certain field conditions. Significant uncertainty remains surrounding the types of modules susceptible to LeTID; the magnitude of power degradation and regeneration; the field conditions that trigger LeTID; and optimized laboratory testing protocols. This presentation will provide critical information for decision makers and testing laboratories. A recipe for assessing and quantifying the risk of various PV technologies and climates will be included. Methods for addressing LeTID in a project’s financial model will be discussed, including performance metrics, site specific implementation for degradation and P90 modeling. Detailed laboratory testing protocols suitable for module certifications and extended-duration stress testing will be presented with correlations drawn to field observations.
