Solar Power Events Code of Conduct
Solar Power Events is committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, or other protected characteristics. We expect all attendees, media, speakers, and exhibitors to help ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for behavior, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.
CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT: Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative. Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech. Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert SETS staff if you notice a dangerous or harassing situation.
UNACCEPTABLE CONDUCT: All who participate in the event deserve respectful treatment, regardless of the capacity in which they are attending. Unacceptable behaviors include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct by any attendee, speaker, partner, or exhibitor of the event or related event activities. Solar Power Events defines harassment to include: offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, national origin, gender identity, or disability; use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention. Attendees often combine professional activities with social interaction and while Solar Power Events encourages such networking and strengthening of connections between participants, Solar Power Events reserves the right to remove anyone whose social attentions become unwelcome to an attendee or exhibitor, who appears inebriated and who engages in conduct that interferes with the ability of other attendees and/or exhibitors to participate in and enjoy the event.
CONSEQUENCES OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR: Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated at the events whether by (including but not limited to) attendees, media, speakers, organizers, sponsors, or exhibitors. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. Solar Power Events, at its discretion, may bar those who violate this code from continued attendance or participation in some or all of the events, without refund of any fees paid, and may in appropriate circumstance bar violators of this code from attendance or participation of future events.
SETS educational programs are an opportunity to discuss business and technology issues. All panelists participating in Solar Power Events' educational offerings must represent the diversity to which we aspire and adhere to the values of our industry. Panels that lack diversity do not meet the standards of our organization.
Supporting the Industry
Unlike other industry events, all proceeds from North America Smart Energy Week support the expansion of the energy industry through SEIA and SEPA's year-round research and education activities, and extensive advocacy efforts. Our primary mission is to deliver on the missions of both SEIA and SEPA in a way that strengthens the industry domestically and globally, through networking and education, and by creating an energetic and engaging marketplace to connect buyers and suppliers.
Commitment to Collaboration
The success of this event, and all Solar Power Events, is heavily driven by the two non-profit, membership organizations behind it. The partnership between SEPA and SEIA, through their joint ownership of the Solar Power Events, has resulted in the creation of a robust suite of business and education opportunities for the solar industry. Solar Power Events organizers and speakers will strive to create a welcoming, collaborative environment for all attendees and stakeholders. At times, debatable issues are discussed at Solar Power Events. These debates make the industry stronger and facilitate the healthy exchange of ideas in a collegial setting. All Solar Power Events speakers will strive to present balanced perspectives on contentious issues in a professional, constructive manner.
Our team at North America Smart Energy Week strives to create an experience that inspires and embodies a sustainable and clean future. While our programming already encompasses our efforts to share content to businesses focused on a smart, renewable energy future, we have made a commitment to use the UN's Sustainable Development Goals as a roadmap to ensure that holistically North America Smart Energy Week is a sustainable, diverse, and forward-looking event for everyone.
