David Zhao, MD, is the Henry S. Miller, Jr., Professor in Cardiovascular Medicine, Chief of the Section on Cardiovascular Medicine, and Executive Director of the Heart and Vascular Center at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is an interventional cardiologist and actively involved in patient care, education, and research. Dr. Zhao is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Cardiology. He has been listed on the US News and World Report’s Best Doctors since 2007 and America’s Top Physician reports since 2005. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Chinese-American Heart Association (CnAHA) since 2007. Dr. Zhao has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles and presented at numerous national and international conferences. Among many contributions in the field of interventional cardiology, Dr. Zhao’s key research interests include hybrid revascularization, cardiac stem cell therapy, and structural heart intervention. In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, he has been instrumental in building new care models for cardiovascular patients. While at Vanderbilt and working with cardiac surgeons, he pioneered hybrid heart team care and created the first hybrid cardiac catheterization and operating facility in the nation. Once joining Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Dr. Zhao led a team of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons, advanced practitioner providers, nurses, and staff in establishing a patient-centered and disease-focused heart and vascular center, the creation of which has provided an innovative care model that leads the nation in comprehensive and integrative cardiovascular care.
