Associate Professor & Vice Chair Department of Neurology
Kevin M Barrett, MD is Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic Florida. I am a board-certified vascular neurologist with clinical and research experience across a broad range of cerebrovascular disorders. I serve as the co-director of the Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and the medical director of the Neurosciences Unit at Mayo Clinic Hospital. I am the Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurology, a role I have served for the past 5 years. As Chair of the Neurosciences Focused Research Team and a member of the Clinical Research Management Team, I play a direct leadership role in research oversight and management at Mayo Clinic Florida. My previous research has focused on acute ischemic stroke therapy, hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, and post-stroke recovery. I have served on the Executive Committee of the Stroke Hyperglycemia Insulin Network Effort (SHINE) trial as a co-investigator for Recruitment. SHINE recruited 1151 patients at 73 participating sites in the Unites States over 6 year period (2012-2018). I currently serve on the Executive Committee of CREST-2 as Director of Recruitment. I chair the Site Management and Recruitment Committee at the Clinical Coordinating Center which is responsible for achieving a recruitment goal of 2480 patients across >120 active centers across North America and internationally.
