Abhinav Goyal, MD, MHS, FACC, FAHA is an academic cardiologist at Emory Healthcare, Professor of Medicine at the Emory School of Medicine, Professor of Epidemiology at the Emory Rollins School of Public Health, and Chief Quality Officer for the Emory Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Goyal and his Emory team have developed a standard for diagnosing and documenting the types of myocardial infarction and non-MI causes of troponin elevation for frontline providers, and this standard has been recognized as a superb resource by clinicians, CDI specialists, and coders across the U.S., as well as by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Goyal is also an ad-hoc advisor to the National Center for Health Statistics (responsible for updating the ICD-10 coding nomenclature in the U.S.), as it pertains to documentation and coding of acute myocardial infarction and nonischemic myocardial injury. An active clinical investigator, Dr. Goyal has over 100 publications, particularly related to acute coronary syndromes, diabetes and heart disease, cardiovascular clinical trials, and health services and outcomes research.
