Brigitta C. Brott, MD, FACC, FSCAI, is Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering and Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She then completed her medical degree at Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, IL and her Internal Medicine residency (1991) at Beth Israel Medical Center – Harvard Medical School. Dr. Brott completed General Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology fellowships at Duke University.
Dr. Brott serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, and is a reviewer of numerous journals. Dr. Brott has served on several councils and grant review committees including the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology, NIH BMBI Study Section (Biomaterials and Biointerfaces), NIH SBIB Study Section (Surgical Sciences, Biomedical Imaging, and Bioengineering), and the NIH Special Emphasis Panel - Biomedical Imaging and Engineering Area Review.
Dr. Brigitta Brott’s research interests are the understanding of endovascular device – artery interactions and the improvement of vascular compatibility of stents and other implants. Her focus is on the development and evaluation of new interventional device coatings and implants, in order to improve patient outcomes. In this role, she has co-founded Endomimetics, LLC, a UAB spin-off company, which develops coatings to improve healing and inhibit abnormal clotting on implants.
