What is a Power App? A power app is an mobile app that can be built with little or no coding knowledge, by non-developers. What does this mean for your business? It means that the line staff who are 'closest' to the business' operations can identify opportunities for streamlining or improving processes, and then create an app to leverage these opportunities. In short, innovation is closer to hand, and the ability to 'fail fast and fail up' with minimal cost or risk is possible.
How hard is it to build one? Power Apps is a low code/no code tool, but it does require some knowledge and training. Before your organization plunges headlong into Power Apps, it will benefit from having some practitioners with some experience. This is your opportunity to get that initial experience by having a hands on experience.
Doggy Day Care In this class, we will build an app for a fictitious doggy day care business. The purpose of this app will be to check dogs in and out each day, as well as register new customers. Finally, the app will enable the doggy day care staff to update each dog's record with their behaviour during their stay.
Participant background and experience: Participants do not need experience with Power Apps. We will be exploring the basics of Power Apps while creating our app. We will connect to a dummy dataset, and use it to populate our app. We will also update the dummy dataset using the app we build. We will build in plenty of time for discussion amongst participants about how Power Apps could be used to promote innovation in their organization.
