New modular DC-Link film capacitor technologies have been developed by TDK. These technologies assist in controlling electromagnetic effects and improve the efficiency and power density of power converters. High frequency performance of film capacitors will be analyzed, including a description of the electromagnetic root causes and how to control them. The analysis will be based on both experimental results and electromagnetic simulations based on PEEC (Partial Equivalent Electrical Circuits). Main root causes analyzed will be: skin effect, internal resonances, inhomogeneous internal impedances, electromagnetic interactions and metallization profiles.
