A novel four-port bidirectional DC-DC converter for integration of a hybrid energy, DC microgrid system is proposed in this paper. With the state-space average method, the expression of the power between the DC microgrid and the battery is derived. Based on the power analysis, three controllers are developed to control the battery voltage/current, and the DC link voltage of the converter, respectively. The converter is used to interface a wind turbine generator, a PV panel, battery, and the DC microgrid. Simulations and experiments are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed controllers. The results show that it is not only capable of doing the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for the renewable energy sources, but can achieve bidirectional power flow between the battery and the DC microgrid as well.
