The four-stage PETs have been wildly used in the application for locomotive traction and smart grid, due to the advantages of multiple output ports, good controllability and flexibility. However, the four-stage PETs have complex structure and low efficiency, because of the multiple power conversion stages. Therefore, a multiport three-stage PET topology based on modular multilevel converter (MMC) is proposed. A mixed-frequency modulation is proposed to reduce the power conversion stage and the power decoupling circuits are designed to realize the multiple output ports. In addition, the equivalent circuit analysis and design procedure are provided. The simulation results verify that the proposed PET topology has four output ports with only three power conversion stages, where the PET structure is effectively simplified.
