This paper introduces a highly reliable power conversion system with active battery balancing capability using switch set. This multi-function topology reduces device components and optimizes the operation in the system. Based on reliability studies, the proposed topology has higher reliability and the higher mean time to failure compared to the conventional topologies. To verify the proposed topology, a prototype circuit with a GaN switch has been made and the results of experiments based on several scenarios are analyzed. For the battery balancing scheme, 4 series connected Li-Ion battery is selected.
