Application of modular multilevel converter in electric vehicle system is an emerging research topic being studied recently, for its capability of multi-function integration. However, during the operation of MMC, specific ac harmonics will be introduced in battery cell current, reducing battery lifetime. A multiple common-mode voltage injection control method that increases the frequency of current harmonic and allows the filtering through smaller filters is proposed in this paper, to mitigate the negative influence of current harmonics on battery lifetime. To eliminate the effect of injected common-mode component on ac side, a hybrid MMC topology is also proposed.
