This digest demonstrates the use a three-phase phase-controlled switch to perform inrush current testing and shows the relative benefits of this strategy compared to using an AC power supply. The goal of this work is to provide more accurate and realistic inrush current measurements for use with power system monitor load identification and microgrid transient stability analysis. A quick exploration into the impact of line impedance on the shape and magnitude of the inrush waveform is also shown.
