Modeling and Simulation of Converters and Systems
automated design, optimization, genetic algorithm, pareto, power converter
The paper presents a Matlab platform for design automation of power electronic converter. It implements an optimization grid multi-objectives genetic algorithm to achieve optimal design of power converters. It uses libraries of existing components for semi-conductors, spreader, capacitors, magnetic materials, magnetic cores, AWG wires, gate drivers, signal isolator to feed the models. The output of the optimization is a Pareto, best trade-of between several objectives respecting numerous constraints, e.g. EMC standards, thermal of components, available volume. The designer can finally pick-up a feasible solution among all the optimal ones where each solution is a bill of materials. This reduces dramatically the time to market. A practical example of 3kW PFC + series resonant isolated dc-dc optimal design is presented at the end of the paper.
