Single-phase converters with an active buffer are promising candidates towards achieving high power density, high energy efficiency and high reliability (H3). Due to the need for an extra power converter, these H3 converters generally mandate more sensors, as compared to conventional single-phase converters, in order to achieve reliable and secure system operation. This adversely offsets the advantages gained in power density and reliability. In this paper, a simple and reliable algebraic observer is proposed to reduce the number of sensors needed in the system, thereby offering advantages such as low cost, high compactness, and improved reliability. The proposed observer only requires a decent amount of computation. Moreover, the observer demonstrates high accuracy and fast responses with a minimum estimation delay. The feasibility of the proposed observer is testified in both simulation and experimental setup.
