This digest proposes a condition monitoring method for MOSFETs, which is non-invasive, robust, and without additional hardware circuitry and software algorithm. It is based on the monitoring of the duty cycle values of the MOSFETs. The application of the proposed method for a buck converter is presented here. The principle of the method and proof-of-concept experimental verification are provided. The impact of other factors, such as input voltage, loading and case temperature, on the duty cycle of the buck converter is also investigated. Both theoretical and experimental results indicate the feasibility of the proposed method for DC-DC converter.
