High speed motor, closed rotor slot, VSD, FEM
Due to the interaction of fundamental and harmonic fields, it is high challenge to design the rotor slots of an inverter-fed high-speed induction motors. Currently, closed rotor slot are gained high popularity in induction motor design, for its contribution of the lower harmonic field, the lower loss and vibration. However, the harmonic leakage in iron bridge area may increase and affects the motor's performance significantly and loading ability. With a 30kW, 4-pole inverter fed high-speed induction motor, this paper analyzes the performance such as slot leakage reactance, starting current and maximum torque, considering semi-closed slot effect of closed rotor bars with different parameters by FEM, meanwhile, a prototype is manufactured and the experimental validation is also carried out.
