This paper presents a demand charge control for an on-demand wirelessly charged shuttle operating at NREL. A new control algorithm has been proposed for reducing the demand charge costs incurred from the wireless charger by monitoring the shuttle, wireless charger, renewable generations, and loads, and regulate charging behavior for demand response. An energy prediction is made to estimate the mobility needs of the vehicle and maintain uninterrupted service while still minimizing peak demand. The proposed controller has been implemented and tested for charge sustaining and depletion. The controller showed a robust performance with high correlation between simulation and experimental data.
