Fel d1 is an important cat allergen. Over 90% of individuals with sensitivities to cats react to Fel d1. Fel d1 produced in the salivary glands is distributed to the hair coat during grooming and then shed into the environment via dander. We will describe a novel strategy using cat diet to reduce immunologically active Fel d1 levels in cat saliva and a potential approach to reduction of cat allergens in the environment and resulting benefits to cat-allergic individuals.
