How do we best treat animals in cardiopulmonary arrest? Evidence-based veterinary CPR guidelines published by the RECOVER Initiative in 2012 aimed at maximizing patient survival after cardiopulmonary arrest led to the official veterinary CPR certification process approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. This course will teach the concepts and techniques of RECOVER Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS).
The hands-on portion or the workshop will use high fidelity simulators with heart and lung sounds, palpable pulses, and a patient monitor to review the important concepts of basic and advanced life support. Participants will practice running arrest scenarios in groups. The course will conclude with an assessment of BLS and ALS skills.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive certificates documenting their status as a certified BLS and ALS Rescuer through the RECOVER Initiative and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.
