Dr. John C. Davis, DVM, MS, MBA, is a veterinary practitioner in general practice. He and his wife, Patti, have owned and operated Rio Cucharas Veterinary Clinic near the town of Walsenburg in southern Colorado since 1980. John grew up in eastern Nebraska and attended undergraduate school at the University of New Mexico where he received degrees in biology and chemistry. He then served six years on active duty in the United States Navy as an officer in the submarine force. Dr. Davis resigned his commission to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. While on reserve active duty in his early years of practice Dr Davis worked at the marine mammal research facility on Point Loma, California. Captain Davis has also served in the inactive reserve of the United States Public Health Service. Dr. Davis received his DVM from Colorado State University; he also holds an MS in parasitology and an MBA in healthcare administration. Dr. Davis has been a continuous member of the AVMA and CVMA since his graduation. Dr. Davis has been active in advancing veterinary continuing education nationally and locally. In 2002 he was elected to the Board of Directors of Western Veterinary Conference where he served for four years. In his tenure on that board he served on various committees and chaired the Internal Audit and Governance committees. Dr. Davis has served in the private sector on various governmental, not for profit and corporate boards including a national bank and its holding company. He is the vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank and chairs the internal audit and risk management committee. Dr. Davis has been a representative of our profession in his community for nearly 40 years.
