Creative Recording Techniques

Recording engineers are recording artists, too, co-creators/collaborators in the creation of the recording, whether it’s music, sound design for picture or live. The studio, venue, console, DAW, monitors, mics, outboard gear, plug-ins, reverbs and echo are the instruments we play, the medium with which we paint our sonic masterpieces. With our knowledge and use of this technology we inspire and capture the magic in the room or on stage. I will be sharing examples of both audio engineers and musicians (Geoff Emerick, Daphne Oram, Frank Zappa, Sylvia Massy, BB Barron, Jack White as examples, as well as me) who use/used recording and audio technology in conventional, unconventional and completely insane/innovative ways. The point? We are artists, too!
