Room acoustics is a dominating factor for the resulting sound of any amplified or acoustic show. The room acoustic situation in a venue is usually a given, not influenceable. However, to realize variable acoustics a tool is getting increasingly popular in concert and multi-purpose halls: Active Acoustics. I.e. shaping the acoustics using an electro-acoustic installation. These systems are usually installed and calibrated by the manufacturer and left to venues as a black-box with a few buttons to change pre-configured presets. However, as a sound engineer we want more. This brief presents the authors work in two venues working the room acoustics from a sound engineers point of view.
