Paul's current research areas are:
Realtime low-latency audio and video long distance collaboration for composition, rehearsal and performance using systems such as LoLa.
Extending the reach of Audio over IP systems such as Dante, Ravenna and AES67 examining timing and synchronisation within systems.
'Vintage' pro audio design and history.
Dr. Paul Fergy studied physics and electronics at Liverpool University.. During the 80’s he did electronic design work for a number of major companies alongside studio and live engineering work.
In 1990 he joined TC Electronic (UK)/Systems Workshop established by Phil Beaumont and Steve Rothery (Marillion) and became one of the first Pro Tools specialists in the UK. This technical specialist role led him to support studio and live projects by artists such as Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Francis Dunnery and Robert Plant. In addition it led to strong relationships with audio companies such as Digidesign (now AVID), Steinberg and the Propellerheads.
Paul continues to maintain his Music Industry profile, supporting projects and acting as consultant. He has recently worked under NDA with AVID, Focusrite and Audinate.
Paul moved to Edinburgh Napier University in 2001. As Associate Professor of Audio Engineering he leads the Music technical team and supports audio-related research activities across the University as part of this technical role.
Paul is an AVID Certified Instructor for Pro Tools and an Audinate Certified Dante Trainer.
