In just the last year, a new military issue has arisen to complicate wind turbine siting in five states (proximity to intercontinental ballistic missile facilities) and an old issue (potential impacts to air defense radars utilized by North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)) flared up. In addition, legislative and mapping efforts have multiplied at the state level, while Congress has continued to re-visit the rules for the Clearinghouse. And, of course, issues related to military training routes and air traffic control radars have not gone away. This panel will address questions such as:
What military issues do you need to be considering when developing a project?
What are the latest rules of the road for engagement with military stakeholders?
What paths forward existing to work through concerns the military might raise?
What changes might we see going forward?
You will hear directly from two DOD officials about their concerns and recommendations, along with industry representatives about navigating the increasingly complex project development environment related to military compatibility.
