As Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Emergency Medicine Service Line, Dr. D’Angelo is responsible for the clinical and operational performance of Northwell Health’s 16 emergency departments, hospital based observation units, and a rapidly expanding network of urgent care centers. In total, the Emergency Medicine Service Line touches nearly 900,000 lives annually and spans New York City, Westchester, and Long Island.
Prior to this role, Dr. D’Angelo was Chairman of Emergency Medicine for Glen Cove Hospital and acted as co-chairman for the Northwell Health Sepsis Task Force, where he was instrumental in spearheading the system’s sepsis initiative to identify patients with this potentially fatal condition at an early stage and implement aggressive treatment measures. Dr. D’Angelo also took the lead in a collaborative between Northwell Health and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, which was charged with becoming highly reliable in the execution of detailed sepsis bundles. Dr. D’Angelo’s contribution has garnered national recognition, as evidenced by Northwell Health receiving the 2014 John M. Eisenberg Award for Patient Safety and Quality for reducing sepsis mortality by 50 percent across the entire health system.
In addition to his practice of emergency medicine for over 17 years, Dr. D'Angelo has served as medical director to numerous EMS agencies throughout his career and served in the United States Army Reserve from 2001-2011.
Dr. D’Angelo received his medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook and subsequently completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA.
