Dr. Ashurst graduated from the emergency medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network and was named the CORD academic resident of the year. During training, he completed a Clinical Masters of Science from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation, he accepted the emergency medicine residency research director position at Duke Lifepoint Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. During his tenure, the residency received numerous research grants, published in many academic journals, and many residents won local, regional, national, and international honors for their research projects.
After several years, he took the program director, research director, and ADIO position at Kingman Regional Medical Center. While employed at KRMC he has served as the chair of the research committee for the ACOEP, the chair of the RDIG for SAEM, the president-elect for FOEM, and the guest editor in chief for ACOEP issue of CPC-EM. From a research perspective he has devoted his time to studying the difference in academic productivity between allopathic and osteopathic physicians. He is also currently completing a Doctorate in Education from AT Still University with a focus on the learning preferences of emergency physicians.
