Anita Chary, MD PhD, is an anthropologist and resident physician at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR). After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Chemistry, she attended medical and graduate school in anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis. As a resident at HAEMR, she leads the Social Emergency Medicine Interest Academy. She has teaching experience in public health and medical anthropology at the undergraduate and graduate level. She conducts research in social medicine, health disparities, and public health within the US and internationally. She is Research Director of the non-governmental organization Maya Health Alliance | Wuqu' Kawoq, which provides health care and development services in rural indigenous communities of Guatemala.
