The SAEM annual meeting will host a new Program Officer Event to facilitate interaction and networking with Program Officials (POs) from the major federal granting agencies. Five POs will be onsite at SAEM20, including representatives from the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute. The 80-minute session will consist of four one-on-one time slots, providing 20 attendees the opportunity to meet and talk with the PO of their choice. SAEM attendees will be selected through a competitive application process, with priority being given to applicants with promising research ideas, some track record of academic accomplishment, and a likelihood of benefitting from this interaction. Questions such as “how do I choose the right institute for my proposal?”, “how might I improve my investigator score”, and “how do you recommend I approach and interact with a PO?” are welcome. One-on-one sessions will be followed by a one-hour networking/social event open to all SAEM20 attendees with food and beverages to enable interaction with POs on a more informal basis.
