I am currently a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Behavioral and Social Science at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University and an Attending Physician in the Departments of Emergency Medicine at the Rhode Island Hospital and and Miriam Hospital. in Providence, Rhode Island. I have been engaged in research in Behavioral Medicine and Emergency Medicine for 33 years and more than 85 peer reviewed publication, a number of books and chapters, and many abstracts and invited presentations. I have taught undergraduates, graduate students, medical students and residents at Brown for more than 30 years.I have mentored dozens of students who have gone on to have successful careers in medicine. I have been an investigator or co-investigator on more than 15 NIH grants and have served on NIG review committees. I continue to practice clinical Emergency Medicine actively and to carry out funded and unfunded research, developing new projects with a focus on new and innovative concepts and approaches to unsolved medical problems. I have worked in a variety of austere settings in refugee camps, disaster and post disaster sites, and developing nations.
