Dr. Marie-Carmelle Elie, is an associate professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Medicine, Division of Palliative Medicine. Following fellowship training in trauma and critical care, Dr. Elie has been responsible for developing a number of novel programs at 2 academic based institutions, and has served in the roles of Director of Critical Care, Director of Research and Clinical Trials, and most recently was appointed the Chief Medical Officer of Haven, a non-profit hospice organization providing service to Floridians in the North Central Florida area. Dr. Elie has served as the site PI or co-investigator in over 20 large clinical trials with a focus specifically on interventions that mitigate the complications of critical illness. She is currently a co-investigator in the largest funded trial in the US investigating the integration of palliative care into the emergency department.
Dr. Elie has an interest and track record in promoting learners at all points of their career trajectory and building teams with a high representation of women and those from under-represented backgrounds. She believes that it is the diversity in the composition and experience of the team that may be leveraged to facilitate high-quality, compassionate patient-centered care.
