Presentation Description: We’ve learned how to optimize development to get the best return on investment onshore. However, offshore wind resource trends are expected to up-end some of the more obvious tricks of the trade. Based on DNV GL’s analysis of the floating lidar data in the New York Bight, DNV GL will present notable differences in measured wind resource onshore and offshore to help developers make informed decisions on offshore wind development strategies such as turbine selection, layout optimization including consideration for blockage, and connections to the grid based on estimated energy profiles and demand curves. Special attention will be given to a case study on whether taller towers and bigger rotors still make economic sense in the New York Bight.
