Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, University at Albany, State University of New York
Jeff Freedman is a Research Associate at the University at Albany’s Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) in Albany, NY. Prior to joining ASRC, Dr. Freedman was Lead Research Scientist at AWS Truepower, a renewable energy consulting firm. Before earning his PhD at the University at Albany, Dr. Freedman was an Associate Counsel at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. Dr. Freedman’s research focuses on renewable energy (the wind resource including assessment and forecasting), boundary layer meteorology, and climate change. Dr Freedman has been involved in investigating the offshore wind energy resource since the early 2000s from both a meteorological and regulatory perspective. He also led a three-year Department of Energy/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration sponsored study to demonstrate the value of additional atmospheric observations and model enhancements on short-term wind energy production forecasts. Dr. Freedman is co-chair of the American Meteorological Society’s Renewable Energy Committee.
