I designed this quilt to hang in a bathroom. I began by laying a grid over a traditional US bathroom symbol, then removing/playing with different bits to create the final design. The more I removed, the more I liked how deconstructing the female/male forms communicates the dysfunction inherent in the strict binary presentation of gender. I chose a square quilting pattern to reinforce the grid design and finished quilt shape.
