For some, middle ground represents compromise: individual commitment to a group effort to make it succeed, be it a team, a company, a family, a society, a civilization. But there is nothing inherently virtuous about being neither here nor there or going along to get along. "Good people on both sides" negates the fact that there is no middle ground when it comes to being moral or immoral. Justice and inequity do not sit in the middle.
