This quilt is inspired by a geometric motif from the courtyard of the Shehzade Mosque in Istanbul, built in the sixteenth century by royal Ottoman architect Sinan. I was drawn to the interlocking circles and immediately set to see if it was possible to recreate with patchwork. The linen background provides a textural contrast to the multicolored rings. Simple quilting reinforces the illusion of continuous circles and emphasizes the patchwork.
