"Ninth Street Women" Bee, named for Mary Gabriel's book, is a bee dedicated to honoring the work of the great women artists of the modern era. This quilt was inspired by the work of Louise Nevelson (1899-1998), known for her monochromatic sculptures incorporating found and discarded objects. Bee members made blocks using discarded scraps and leftover blocks, and the final assemblage was quilted to emphasize its sculptural quality.
