Cambridge Modern Quilt Guild
Maritza Soto comes from a family of seamstresses from Puerto Rico. She learned to sew by hand as a child but only took up machine sewing later in life. Having earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design in Illustration, her disenchantment with the cut-throat competitive aspect of making art for hire led her to shift mediums. Inspired by the quilters of Gees Bend and Denyse Schmidt, she rediscovered her passion for playing with form, space, and color through sewing. She is a member of the CMQG and teaches quilting and patchwork at Gather Here.
Currently, she lives in Cambridge, MA, with her husband - a fellow maker - their two children and a neurotic but lovable Sheltie.
