Part A: Emergency Declarations for Public Health Issues: Expanding Our Definition of Emergency
Officials have recently used emergency powers to address enduring public health issues. To explore this trend, panelists will discuss using emergency declarations as a mechanism to address public health threats, Arizona’s emergency declarations for the opioid epidemic, and the emergency declarations in response to California’s hepatitis A outbreak.
Part B: Governors Opioid-based Disaster Declarations: Lessons Learned and Future Directions
Governors from various States have issued opioid crisis based disaster declarations for a variety of reasons. These declarations have ranged from short term (60 days) to much longer term (a year and a half) and have demonstrated some interesting results. This session will review some of the victories seen from these declarations as well as future directions for the States in which they were issued.
