Track 1: Building and Sustaining Resilient Communities
Part A: Long Term Power Outages and Public Health: Perspectives from Practitioners
Power outages — whether natural or intentional in nature — have the potential to cripple communications, mass transit, and healthcare systems, wreaking an impact on nearly all facets of everyday life. With a focus on health consequences, this session will present barriers, response strategies, and lessons learned from responding to long-term power outages.
Part B: Modeling Resilient Hospitals: Critical Operations Persistence During Extended Power Outages
Long-term loss of electrical power is a major disabling obstacle to critical hospital operations. This session will introduce an ongoing effort by experts in hospital operations and model-based systems engineering to develop ways that hospitals can best deal with this threat and continue to serve their communities.
