Track 1: Building and Sustaining Resilient Communities
Ensuring equity and resiliency are at the forefront of public health preparedness, response, and decisionmaking. In late fall 2018, a city within the Berrien County Health Department’s jurisdiction experienced an action level exceedance (>15ppb) for lead in public drinking water. In follow-up testing and investigation at that time, it was deemed greater action was required and both the City as well as BCHD began to take additional steps to ensure the health and wellness of City Residents. BCHD will walk participants through a preparedness equity framework that was used during its response to an action-level exceedance for lead in drinking water and share lessons learned throughout.
