Track 4: Enhancing Public Health, Healthcare, and Emergency Management Systems
Nebraska experienced record-breaking flooding in 2019. At the same time, the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) was in the process of reorganizing its emergency management program. UNMC fully activated its new incident management team for the first time in history, maintaining situational awareness of its five campuses across the state and providing public health outreach to flood-impacted residents in the rural Midwest. How was the team able to quickly adapt to the challenges and grow its program during an actual disaster? This session will discuss the methods used to drive organizational change, the unique challenges of leading during a disaster, and tips for ensuring program sustainability.
